Biography
Oscar Holderer was an engineer who worked with Wernher von Braun in the United States and for Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Holderer came to the United States as part of the second group of people brought from Germany after World War II as part of Operation Paperclip. He worked as an engineer designing the wind tunnel used for Saturn V testing. In addition to his work for space missions, Holderer designed the multi-axis trainer, 5DF, and one-sixth gravity chair in use at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center for Space Camp. He also facilitated the 1979 erection of the Saturn IB on display at the I-65 welcome center in Ardmore. Holderer died on May 5, 2015 at the age of 95.
