Jaak Joala was an Estonian singer and music teacher. Joala is considered a legend in the music world by some.[1] He began his career as a musician with Kristalllid (eng. trans. The Crystals) in 1967. In autumn 1968, he was hired by the bass player and lead singer Toivo Kurmet from the popular band Virmalised (Northern Lights). With Virmalised, he sang several of Kurmet's songs: "Taas on päev" ("Once again the day"), "Naer" ("Laughter"), "Ainult sul" ("Only you have"), "Ma ei tea miks" ("I don't know why"), and "Üksinda" ("Alone"). In addition, Joala introduced Western music to Estonian and Soviet audiences by singing them in Estonian.
